Die USA griffen erst 1917 ins Geschehen des 1. Weltkriegs in Europa ein.

In den World War 1 Draft Cards findet man zahlreiche Männer namens Iten.

Solche Karten mussten alle jungen Männer im kriegsfähigen Alter ausfüllen.

 

Diese Registrierung sagt aber noch nichts darüber aus, ob diese Männer

tatsächlich im 1. Weltkrieg in Europa zum Einsatz kamen. Bisher weiss ich

das nur von einem sicher: Leroy Iten ist in St. Mihiel, Frankreich gefallen.

Begraben wurde er aber auf dem Highland Cemetery im Madison County.

 

Die Rubrik Weltkrieg Teil 1 enthält die etwa 50 Männer namens Iten, von

denen man eine World War 1 Draft Registration Card bei ancestry findet.

Von den meisten konnte ich allerdings die Original Karte nicht einsehen.

 

Die Zuordnung der Eltern und Ehefrauen haben mir Nachforschungen

in den Volkszählungen (Census) von 1910, 1920 und 1930 ermöglicht.

Anton und Joseph Iten im Imperial County sind meine Urgrossonkel.

Leroy Itens Halbschwester Anna Lee Iten diente als Krankenschwester im

US Army Post Hospital Jefferson Barracks in Missouri.

 

In der "History of the 89th Division" ist unter den "Gassed Enlisted Men" ein

Iten Charley, Private, Company F, 354 Infantry, 27.10.1918, gelistet (Seite 432).

The United States entered the theatre of WW1 in Europe in 1917.

There are WW1 Draft Registration Cards for many men with the name Iten.

Such documents exist for all young men of a certain age at the time.

 

This registration doesn't prove that this men all were at the front in Europe.

I only know that Leroy Iten of Illinois, died in St. Mihiel, France in 1918 and

it seems that his remains were transfered to the Highland Cemetery in

Madison County, Ilinois after the end of the war.

 

Under Weltkrieg Teil 1 there is a list of 50 men with the name Iten

which have a WW1 Draft Registration Card at ancestry. As I'm not a

member of ancestry, I cannot see the details or the original images.

 

The parents and wifes of this men I found while researching the

US-Censuslists of the years 1910, 1920 and 1930. Anton and

Joseph Iten in Imperial County were my great-granduncles.
